Eighties

The decade from 1980 to 1989, or the numbers from 80 to 89. Can refer to someone's age (being in their eighties) or to the cultural era of the 1980s.

Plural of 'eighty', from Old English 'eahtatig' (eight times ten). The use of decade names with '-ies' suffix became common in the 20th century for referring to cultural periods.
