Evoke

To evoke means to bring a feeling, memory, or image into someone’s mind. A smell, sound, or picture can evoke strong emotions or past experiences.

It comes from Latin 'evocare', meaning 'to call out' or 'summon', from 'e-' (out) and 'vocare' (to call). Originally it meant calling out spirits or people, then extended to calling up memories and feelings.
