Buildings or groups of buildings where goods are manufactured or produced in large quantities using machines and workers.

From 'factory,' which comes from Latin 'factorium' (place where things are made), from 'facere' (to make or do). The term became prominent during the Industrial Revolution to describe the new industrial buildings.
