Impressions or marks left by feet on a surface. Can also refer to evidence of presence or impact in a broader sense.

Compound of 'foot' (Old English fōt) + 'print' (Old French preinte). The metaphorical sense of 'trace of impact' emerged in the 20th century, as in 'carbon footprint'.
