Fur

/fɜːɹ/ noun

Fur is the thick, soft hair that covers the bodies of many mammals, such as cats, rabbits, and bears. People sometimes use animal fur to make clothing or blankets.

“Fur” comes from Old French “fourrer,” meaning “to line or stuff,” especially with animal skins. At first it referred more to the lining of garments than to animal hair itself.
