Gassing

The act of filling something with gas, or talking excessively about unimportant things.

From 'gas' (17th century, from Dutch 'gas' meaning a vapor-like state) plus the suffix '-ing' indicating an action or process. The sense of talking excessively developed in the early 20th century as slang.
