Glossary

/ˈɡlɒsəri/ (UK), /ˈɡlɔːsəri/ (US) noun

A glossary is a list of special or difficult words from a text, with their meanings explained. It is usually placed at the back of a book to help readers understand key terms.

“Glossary” comes from Latin “glossa,” meaning a foreign or difficult word that needs explaining, and later “glossarium,” a collection of such words. Medieval scholars wrote glosses—little explanations in the margins—which grew into full glossaries.
