Gorilla

/ɡəˈrɪlə/ noun

A gorilla is a large, strong ape that lives in African forests and walks on its knuckles. Gorillas are mostly gentle plant-eaters that live in family groups.

“Gorilla” comes from Modern Latin, based on a Greek word “gorillai” used in an ancient story about ‘hairy women’ on the African coast. Later explorers applied the term to the great apes they encountered.
