Gourd

A large plant that grows on vines and produces hard-shelled fruit with seeds inside, often dried and used as containers or decoration.

From Old French 'gourd' and ultimately from Latin 'cucurbita.' The word traveled through many languages as trade brought these useful plants around the world.
