The groin is the area where your thigh meets your lower belly, on either side of your body. It contains important muscles and blood vessels and can be easily strained in sports.
From Middle English “groin” or “grynde,” originally meaning “groin, depression, hollow,” related to Old English words for “trench” or “ditch.” It referred to a fold or hollow area of the body.
