A member of an ancient people who lived in what is now Turkey around 1600-1180 BCE and created one of the world's first major empires.

From the name of Hatti, the ancient kingdom in Anatolia. The term comes from biblical and Egyptian records referring to 'the land of Hatti.' Modern scholars adopted this designation in the 19th century.
