Hydroponic

A method of growing plants in water with nutrients dissolved in it, rather than using soil, often done indoors under controlled conditions.

From Greek 'hydro-' (water) and 'ponos' (labor or work). The term was coined in the early 20th century to describe the system of farming that works through water rather than soil.
