Iceberg

A large floating mass of ice broken off from a glacier or ice shelf, with most of its volume hidden underwater.

From Dutch 'ijsberg' (ice mountain), combining 'ijs' (ice) and 'berg' (mountain). The term entered English through maritime contact with Dutch sailors in Arctic waters.
