Jawbone

The bone that forms the lower or upper part of the mouth where the teeth are set, especially the lower jaw. It helps you chew and speak.

A compound of “jaw,” from Old English “ceace” or “ceowe,” and “bone,” from Old English “bān.” Both parts are ancient Germanic words. Putting them together simply names the bone of the jaw.
