Kenya

/ˈkɛnjə/ proper noun

Kenya is a country in East Africa, known for its diverse wildlife, savannas, mountains, and coastline along the Indian Ocean. Its capital city is Nairobi.

The name comes from Mount Kenya, whose name may come from the Kikuyu, Embu, and Kamba words related to “Kirinyaga” or “Kiinyaa”, often interpreted as “mountain of whiteness” or “mountain of brightness”, referring to its snow-capped peak. The British colonial administration adopted the mountain’s name for the territory and later the independent nation.
