Ketchup

/ˈkɛtʃəp/ noun

Ketchup is a thick, red sauce made mainly from tomatoes, vinegar, sugar, and spices, often eaten with fries, burgers, and other foods.

Probably from Hokkien Chinese “kê-tsiap” or Malay “kecap”, names for a fermented fish or soy sauce. English traders borrowed the word and the idea, and over time it changed into a tomato-based sauce in the West.
