Microscope

/ˈmaɪkrəˌskoʊp/ noun

A microscope is an instrument that makes very small objects look much larger so you can see details that are invisible to the naked eye. Scientists use it to study cells, microbes, and tiny structures.

From Greek ‘mikros’ meaning ‘small’ and ‘skopein’ meaning ‘to look at’ or ‘to examine.’ The word came into use in the 17th century with the invention of early microscopes.
