Puffin

/ˈpʌfɪn/ noun

A small seabird with a black and white body and a large colorful beak, often called the 'clown of the sea'.

Probably from Middle English *poffin* or *pophyn*, originally used for a kind of fatty sea bird used as food. The name later became attached specifically to the bird we now call the puffin.
