Reckon

/ˈrɛkən/ verb

To reckon means to think or believe something, or to calculate or estimate an amount. In some dialects, it’s also a casual way to say ‘I guess’ or ‘I suppose.’

From Old English *recan* or *gerecenian* meaning ‘to explain, relate, count’, related to German *rechnen* (to calculate). It shifted from counting things to mentally working things out.
