Remission

/rɪˈmɪʃən/ noun

A period when a disease’s symptoms become much less severe or disappear; or the act of cancelling a debt or punishment.

From Latin *remissio* “a sending back, relaxation,” from *remittere* “to send back, relax, forgive.” The medical sense grew from the idea of a problem being temporarily ‘sent away.’
