Revenue

/ˈrɛv.əˌnuː/ noun

Revenue is the total amount of money a company, government, or person earns from its normal activities, before subtracting costs. It is different from profit, which is what is left after expenses.

From Old French *revenu* “income, return,” past participle of *revenir* “to return,” from Latin *revenire* “to come back.” The idea is that money “comes back” to you from your investments or activities.
