A savanna is a flat grassland with scattered trees, usually found in warm regions with a wet and a dry season. Many large animals, like elephants and lions, live in savannas.
From Spanish *sabana*, meaning 'treeless plain', which came from a Taino (Caribbean indigenous) word *zabana*. English changed the spelling to *savanna* under French influence.
