Sediment

Sediment is small pieces of rock, sand, or other material that settle to the bottom of a liquid, like in a river, lake, or bottle of juice.

From Latin “sedimentum” meaning “a settling, sinking down,” from “sedere” meaning “to sit.” It describes material that “sits down” at the bottom.
