Station

A station is a place where specific activities happen regularly, such as a train station where trains stop or a TV station that broadcasts programs. It can also mean a person’s social rank or assigned place of duty.

From Old French “station,” from Latin “statio” meaning “standing place, post, position,” from “stare” meaning “to stand.” The root idea is a fixed place where something or someone stays or operates.
