Supposed

Supposed means believed or claimed to be true, often without strong proof. It can also mean something that is expected or meant to happen.

From Old French 'supposer', from Latin 'supponere' meaning 'to put under, assume'. The sense of 'assumed to be true' developed as people talked about ideas they mentally 'put under' discussion.
