Switch

/swɪtʃ/ verb

To switch means to change from one thing to another, such as switching tasks, sides, or devices. It can also mean to turn something electrical on or off with a switch.

From Middle Dutch 'swijch' meaning 'long thin stick', which became 'switch' in English for a flexible rod. Later it was used for the lever that turns things on and off, then for the act of changing itself.
