A large motor vehicle used for carrying heavy goods from one place to another.

From Latin *trochus* “iron hoop, wheel,” via French *troque* and English *truck* meaning “small wheel or pulley.” The vehicle sense developed in the 19th century from the idea of wheeled platforms for carrying loads.
