Definition
Separated or cut off; in ancient Greek, describing something that has been severed or withdrawn (rare philological term).
Etymology
From Greek ab- (from) plus sistos (standing, from the root of histanai, to place), meaning 'standing away from' or separated. This is a highly technical term used mainly in classical Greek commentary.
Kelly Says
Absistos appears mainly in Byzantine Greek manuscripts discussing logical separation—it's a word so obscure that even classicists need dictionaries to find it, representing layers of technical Greek philosophy that nearly vanished from history.
