Account

/əˈkaʊnt/ noun

Definition

A record or report of money, events, or reasons; or an arrangement with a bank or service that keeps track of what you use or own.

Etymology

From Old French *acont* “reckoning,” from *aconter* “to count, reckon,” from Latin *ad-* “to” and *computare* “to calculate.” It originally meant a detailed counting.

Kelly Says

A social media account and a bank account both do the same thing: they keep a running story of your actions. The word shows how ‘counting’ and ‘telling’ blend together—numbers are just one way of telling a story.
