Accurate

/ˈæk.jə.rət/ adjective

Definition

Accurate means completely correct or very close to the true value. It describes information, measurements, or descriptions that match reality.

Etymology

From Latin 'accuratus', meaning 'done with care' or 'careful', from 'ad-' (to) + 'cura' (care). Over time, it shifted from meaning 'carefully done' to 'correct because it was done carefully'.

Kelly Says

Accurate doesn’t mean 'perfect'; it means 'carefully close to the truth'. That’s why scientists talk about 'accuracy and precision'—you can be precise (consistent) but still not accurate (not close to the truth).
