Etymology

From 'ace,' originally a playing card with the highest value. By the 1920s, 'ace' was used in aviation for skilled pilots, and by the 1950s-60s it meant to do something excellently, especially passing a test.

Kelly Says

The term 'aced' exploded in usage during the test-heavy 1950s American education boom—as standardized testing became central to school life, students needed a word that captured that perfect performance feeling.
