Definition
Relating to or resembling a heap, cluster, or densely packed group; growing or arranged in bunches.
Etymology
From Latin 'acervus' (a heap or pile) + '-al' (suffix meaning relating to). The root describes physical arrangements in concentrated groups.
Kelly Says
The same Latin root 'acervus' gave us 'acervate'—one word describes the thing (a heap) and another describes how it acts (grows in heaps)!
