Definition
A genus of marine green algae with umbrella-shaped structures; sometimes called 'mermaid's wine glasses' because of their distinctive cup-like shape.
Etymology
From 'acetabulum' (cup-shaped structure) + the Latin suffix '-aria' (related to, pertaining to). The name reflects how this alga's physical form resembles the vinegar cups that inspired the name 'acetabulum' in anatomy.
