Aconite

/ˈækənaɪt/ noun

Definition

A highly poisonous plant, also called monkshood or wolfsbane, with purple or blue flowers and containing dangerous alkaloid compounds.

Etymology

From Greek akonition, possibly derived from the ancient Greek city Acone, or alternatively meaning 'without dust' from a- (without) and kone (dust), though etymology is uncertain. The plant was well-known to ancient Greek and Roman writers as a deadly poison.

Kelly Says

Aconite is so toxic that you can absorb poison through your skin just by touching the leaves—ancient hunters used it on arrows to kill wolves, and it may be the mysterious poison Cleopatra or other historical figures used for suicide.
