Definition
In botany, referring to mosses that grow upward from the base with the archegonium (female reproductive organ) at the tip.
Etymology
From Greek akron 'peak' + bryon 'moss.' Describes the growth pattern where reproductive structures appear at the apex of the moss plant.
Kelly Says
Mosses are incredibly ancient plants, and 'acrobryous' describes how some mosses point their 'female parts' skyward—it's their way of catching spores on the wind!
