Adigranth

/ˌɑːdɪˈɡrɑːnθ/ noun

Definition

The Sikh holy scripture, also known as the Guru Granth Sahib; a compilation of hymns and teachings.

Etymology

From Punjabi 'Ādi' (original, first) + 'Granth' (book, scripture). Originally compiled by Guru Arjan Dev in 1604, it became the central religious text of Sikhism.

Kelly Says

The Adigranth is unique because Sikhs treat it not just as a book but as a living Guru—they bow to it, cover it respectfully, and serve it tea—making it possibly the only scripture that receives hospitality like a guest.
