Definition
Of, relating to, or characteristic of adventurism; marked by reckless or overly aggressive action in politics or foreign policy.
Etymology
From 'adventurist' (noun) + '-ic' (Latin suffix creating adjectives). The '-ic' ending is often paired with '-al' to create more formal or technical adjectives.
Kelly Says
English has multiple ways to make adjectives from the same root—'adventure,' 'adventurous,' 'adventurish,' and 'adventuristic' all exist, but they carry different connotations. 'Adventurous' is positive; 'adventuristic' is negative and political. This shows how English allows subtle shades of meaning through different suffixes.
