Definition
Relating to or characteristic of an aedeagus, the male reproductive organ found in insects and some other arthropods.
Etymology
Derived from 'aedeagus' (from Greek 'aedoeagus' meaning 'penis'), with the Latin adjectival suffix '-al'. Used in entomological and zoological literature since the 19th century.
Kelly Says
Entomologists use aedeagal characteristics to identify insect species—sometimes the only way to tell two nearly identical beetles apart is by examining their aedeagi under a microscope! It's like insect fingerprinting.
