A flowering plant with clusters of blue or white trumpet-shaped flowers that bloom in summer, native to South Africa.
Etymology
From Greek 'agape' (love) and 'anthos' (flower), literally meaning 'love flower.' The name was given because of the plant's beautiful clustered blooms that were thought to represent love and affection.

This plant became wildly popular in Victorian gardens because Victorians loved assigning emotional meanings to flowers—agapanthus represented love and devotion! It's still called Lily of the Nile even though it's not actually a lily and comes from South Africa, not the Nile.
