Definition
A small flowering plant with delicate blue, pink, or white flowers that blooms throughout the summer and is popular in gardens.
Etymology
From Greek 'ageratos,' meaning 'not growing old' or 'everlasting,' because the flowers retain their color well. The name was chosen because the blooms seemed to never age or fade during the flowering season.
Kelly Says
Ageratum got its name because ancient botanists thought the flowers never wilted—but that's not quite true; they just bloom continuously all summer long, which probably seemed magical before modern horticulture.
