Definition
to gather or collect things into a mass or cluster; to crowd together into a compact group.
Etymology
From Latin 'agglomeratus,' past participle of 'agglomerare' (to wind around), from 'ad-' (to) plus 'glomus' (ball of yarn). Originally described winding things together.
Kelly Says
Geologists use 'agglomerate' for volcanic rock fragments fused together by heat, while sociologists use it to describe how cities agglomerate—both describe how separate things become unified through external forces.
