Aglaia

/əˈɡleɪə/ noun

Definition

In Greek mythology, one of the three Graces (Charites), the daughter of Zeus and Hera, representing splendor and beauty.

Etymology

From Ancient Greek 'Aglaia' (Ἀγλαΐα), derived from 'aglaos' (splendid, beautiful). The name literally means 'splendor' or 'radiance.' She was one of three sister goddesses: Aglaia, Euphrosyne, and Thalia, who together embodied charm and grace.

Kelly Says

The three Graces were so important in Renaissance art that they became an artistic motif representing beauty and refinement—Botticelli painted them, and the concept of 'the Graces' as embodied elegance has influenced Western aesthetics for 500 years.
