Definition
The act of having the same opinion or accepting something as true; allowing or permitting something to happen.
Etymology
From Old French 'agreer,' combining 'a' (to) and 'gre' (will/pleasure), ultimately from Latin 'gratus' (pleasing). The sense of mutual acceptance comes from doing what is pleasing to another.
Kelly Says
When you agree with someone, you're literally saying 'that's pleasing to me too'—it's an old word that reveals how agreement is actually shared satisfaction. No wonder people feel better when others agree with them; you've both said 'yes, this is good.'
