Definition
Relating to the countryside; rural; unpolished; rustic in character.
Etymology
From Latin 'agrestis' (of the field/rural), from 'ager' (field). Same root as 'agriculture.' Not always complimentary — it can mean 'rough' as well as 'rustic.'
Kelly Says
Country-flavored! From the same root as AGRICULTURE! It can mean charmingly rural OR rudely unsophisticated — depending on whether you think the countryside is paradise or boring! Context is everything! 🌾🏠
