Definition
Plural of airlift; operations in which cargo or people are transported by aircraft, or the aircraft themselves used for such operations.
Etymology
From 'air' + 'lift,' pluralized with '-s'. The term originated in World War II military operations and became a standard noun by the 1940s.
Kelly Says
Every major humanitarian crisis now uses airlifts—COVID vaccines, earthquake survivors, refugees—they've become as essential as any emergency service. When roads fail, we look to the sky.
