Algorismic

/ˌælɡəˈrɪzmɪk/ adjective

Definition

Relating to or using algorism; involving the calculation methods of the decimal system.

Etymology

From algorism plus the adjectival suffix -ic. This older term is less common now than 'algorithmic,' but both derive from the same historical root (Al-Khwarizmi's name).

Kelly Says

When math teachers say 'algorithmic thinking,' they're unknowingly praising a 9th-century Persian guy—most people don't realize that 'algorithm' is literally the Latinized form of a mathematician's name.
