Definition
The official language of Ethiopia, spoken by millions of people in that country and the Horn of Africa region.
Etymology
Named after the Amhara people and region of Ethiopia; the language has been a cultural and administrative language for centuries, written in the Ge'ez script.
Kelly Says
Amharic uses a completely different alphabet called Ge'ez that looks like nothing you've ever seen—and it's one of the few languages in Africa with ancient literary traditions that go back more than a thousand years.
