Aminosuccinamic

/əˌmiːnoʊˌsʌksɪˈnæmɪk/ adjective

Definition

Relating to or describing a chemical compound that contains both amino and succinamic (aspartic acid-related) groups.

Etymology

From amino- + succinamic, which comes from succinic acid (Latin succinicum, relating to amber) + amine. Succinamic acid is a close relative of aspartic acid, one of the 20 common amino acids.

Kelly Says

Aminosuccinamic compounds are obscure chemical terms, but they matter because they describe intermediates in the citric acid cycle—the fundamental energy-production pathway in every cell.
