Describing a plant vascular bundle where the sieve tubes (transport vessels) surround the xylem on both sides.
Etymology
From Greek 'amphi-' (both) + 'cribrum' (sieve), referring to the sieve-like vessels in plants that transport nutrients and water.

Plants evolved three different ways to arrange their plumbing—amphicribral is the rarest design where nutrient-transport tissue wraps the water-transport tissue like a double sleeve, found mainly in ferns and some unusual plants.
