Definition
An analogy is a comparison between two different things that shows how they are similar in a certain way. It’s often used to explain a new idea using something more familiar.
Etymology
From Greek 'analogía' meaning 'proportion' or 'correspondence'. The word moved into Latin and then English, especially in logic and rhetoric, where it described reasoning based on similarity.
